What I do
Since passing my VR/AR course at the MIT I’ve been working on a number of collaborative projects. Mainly prototyping, creating “proof of concepts” and developing user experience and UI of Immersive / XR projects including WebAR.
Using ShapesXR I’ve been able to create interactive 3D high fidelity XR prototypes, I’ve also been making prototype ready 3D assets using Gravity Sketch….building 3D in 3D...Helping brands create there XR design pattern
UX for Immersive Experiences
Given the immersive nature of XR applications, which amplifies the user experience, it is particularly crucial to focus on a User-Centered design approach in order to produce a deeply engaging, enjoyable and user friendly experience.
A number of UX techniques can be used to help develop a user-centred design including creating user personas and user journeys etc. Instead of spending a lot of time and money on creating the finished application it is much more beneficial to create a low cost prototype to help discover any user issues and problems.
Prototyping for VR and AR
Prototyping is used by design teams so they can implement ideas, prove concepts and user test product developments. The prototype be made using a varying degree of fidelity, from lo-fi paper models to 3D hi-fi online apps.
XR Prototyping is particularly important as VR / AR products / apps can be expensive and very time consuming to build and even more expensive and time consuming if the design needs to change. I use Shapes XR which I have found to be an excellent 3D tool for creating a realistic 3D prototype. Shapes XR allows integration with Figma files, interactivity, can be viewed by others online, and the final design can be exported into Unity. I also use Gravity Sketch of creating 3D assets.
Photography for Immersive Experiences
Photogrammetry is the technique of taking multiple overlapping photographs to create 3D models of objects or scenes to be used a 360 background. In reality, sometimes hundreds of images from different angles are needed to be processed via software to get a 3D model.
